Who are we?

James Worrall (Chair)
I am very proud to have become a governor at Cockernhoe in 2024.  I have two children who are currently pupils here and I really want be involved in making a positive difference to the experience for all the children during their time with the school.  I see that by working together we can make our school as good as possible.
I have worked for TUI since 2005 and have enjoyed challenging myself in many roles and learning new skills. In my spare time I love running, reading and being creative.

Josias De Souza - Vicar of St Francis

I'm Brazilian and I moved with my family to the UK in 2016. I previously taught Sociology at a high school, worked as a business executive in advertising and worked as an acoustics engineer. Ordained about 18 years ago, today I am the Vicar of St Francis Parish, which includes St Hugh's Church in Cockernhoe. I really like music and I play the guitar.

Graham Hosker (Vice Chair)

I retired from teaching in the summer of 2019, having been a peripatetic percussion teacher for Hertfordshire Music for over 41 years, whilst also having taught throughout Bedfordshire (including Luton before becoming a Unitary Authority). For the last 13 years I was Lead Teacher for Orchestral Percussion. In 1984, I started examining for Guildhall School of Music, and since the amalgamation, have continued in that work with Trinity College London. For 8 years, I was also a churchwarden at St Francis' Church, which is was my introduction as governor, as I was standing for the incumbent (during the vacancy). I am currently continuing as an assistant churchwarden. In the past, my four sons were pupils here at Cockernhoe.

Helen Harris

I became a governor when my 3rd daughter left Cockernhoe School in 2015. I wanted to give something back as my children had such  a wonderful time at the school, spanning 17 years. I have lived in Cockernhoe for 19 years and the school is very much at the heart of our community.

My background is in Finance and I have worked as Accounts Payable Manager for TUI Airways for the last 16 years.

Jane Borritt

I have historical links with Cockernhoe School.   Five generations of my family have been educated at the school, including myself and my three children. Until December 2023, I had been working as a teaching assistant at the school and had been working in education for over twenty years.  I have been a Governor at Cockernhoe School for ten years and am passionate about the development and learning of all the children. My role allows me to contribute and support in this development. I am also a member of the admissions and the premises committees.

Mark Deacon

worked for Monarch Airlines for over thirty years covering Flight Planning and Navigation and retired from aviation in 2018 after a year spent with International Airlines Group at Heathrow as Group Lead for Airspace. I enjoyed travelling - representing the airline industry in Airspace and Air Traffic Management matters both in the UK and overseas. I have a BA Honours degree in Geography & History. I was a PCC Governor for eight years whilst my two sons were at Cockernhoe and, following an eighteen month break, returned to the Governing Body as Chairman for another six years. I have returned to the Governing Body for a third stint and currently serve on the Finance & Premises and Personnel Committees. I have also been a member of Harpenden Lions for over thirty years and am Chairman of the Luton 10F Air Cadets Squadron.

Maddie Maidment

As a parent of two children at the school and a member of the PTA planning committee I am keen to play an active role within the school. With some background experience working in education, specifically with vulnerable children, I am passionate about being a part of progressive change within education, creating a better future for our children. I strongly believe in pro-social, stimulating environments where our children can thrive in both learning and play to reach their full potential.
